What are Telomeres and Why do They Matter?

But here’s the catch: every time your cells divide, your telomeres get a little shorter. Over time, if they're not protected or restored, they eventually become so short that the cell can no longer divide. When that happens, the cell either becomes dysfunctional or dies.
